Mallorca Villas Pollenca and Cala D'or Regions
Majorca (Mallorca) has the most varied landscape featuring mountains and valleys, rocky coves and sandy beaches. Blessed with all year round warm weather and limited rain, the villas here offer plenty of beautiful scenery with many villages, mountains and hidden bays rarely discovered by tourists.
Pollença is a peaceful and tranquil town that remains very typically Spanish. It is four miles from the coast, nestling between two hills at the eastern end of the Tramuntana mountains. Pollença itself is indisputably pretty. Historic buildings with ochre roofs, sun-baked walls and wooden shutters line the narrow and twisting medieval streets. There are pastel-painted houses in the centre and Moorish water mills on the outskirts. The heart of the old town is the central square, Plaça Major, where there are many café-bars and fine restaurants.
Puerto Pollensa is host to long sandy beaches that curve around the bay and are divided by breakwaters and so are ideal for children. Puerto Pollensa is relaxed with no loud discos or nightclubs, but a fine variety of open-air cafés, restaurants, boutiques and shops. The magnificent bay is filled with yachts and fishing boats with a 1.5-mile seafront promenade.
Cala D'Or has grown from its fishing village origins and now boasts seven fine sandy coves with crystal clear water, all within a one mile radius. Highlights include a magnificent marina, an excellent selection of shops, superb restaurants, open air bars and an 18-hole golf course as well as many other sports facilities.
Porto Petro is just a couple of kilometres south of Cala D'Or and is certainly a place to make the effort to get to. It is still at heart a Mallorcan fishing village with a handful of pleasant little bars and restaurants. Aim to get there for lunch and go to either La Caracola, Can Martina or Porto Mar. The terraces of these restaurants overlook the small fishing port and offer great value 'menus del dia'.
